Written by

Coffee undoubtedly stands as the cradle to warming up for winter. Its popularity in the season is no exception, a visit to Harare's renowned coffee shops amongst them leornado's, Alo Alo, Sopranos, to mention a few will confirm the assertion.

But man can not leave on coffee alone...the number one enemy in winter is coldness, a prevalent characteristic will be trying to keep warm. You might find refugee in your heavy jackets or blankets, but the time will always come when a need to address the gnawing in the stomach will come. A time when you are summoned for an event to indulge the palate and the senses simultaneously.

Winter should not force one to forge an attitude towards food, rather one should consider food when its time to wrap up warm. I love soup and it only gets better in winter. My love for soup derives from the various tastes courtesy of varied ingredients. I am quite sure that soup will scare away the coldness, take it sizzling hot, the best thing is that you can make your soup from from different ingredients, so tomorrow's soup would not be a duplicate of yesterday's dish., thus you will not get fade up with the dish.

Here is a must taste/ must try winter soup- Vegetable and Bean Soup Recipe.

The soup is perfect for cold days when you need to be warm and nourished, it can always be complimented with some crusty bread to keep the chill out. The soup is a package of healthy vegetables and beans that can sustain you through the cold weather.

What you need to make come up with the healthy warm soup are the following; white beans, unsalted butter, finely chopped onion, celery stalk, juicy tomatoes, 1 tsp sugar, 1 bay leaf- fresh or dried, and pepper.

To make your soup, you need a large saucepan, melt the butter, add onion then cook slowly until translucent, stir constantly to avoid burning. Add garlic and cook for at most 2 minutes, add the nicely chopped carrots and celery and cook for about 5 minutes. Add stock, beans, tomatoes, sugar, bay leaf and bring to boil. Cook gently for at most 30 minutes and leave to simmer. After an estimated 40 minutes, your dish will be ready for serving. Serve in warmed soup bowls.

I am sure the vegetable and bean soup will not only be a delight and keep you warm, but will do good for your health. Next time you are at Vic 22, Gecko Gardens or your favourite restaurant, try going for the warm delicate soup.
