I won I won, I love winning! Eatout is awesome and I make sure to enter as many competitions as I can so I was extremely happy to learn I had won a dinner voucher for 2 at Steakout during Harare Restaurant Week, yay for me, other half (hehoo short for he-who-shall-remain-nameless) and little BIT (our 3 year old)! Got it? Good…
As with most restaurants during HRW their specials were varied and interesting. Hehoo chose the grilled haloumi and I had the crumbed mushrooms stuffed with cheese. Now the only thing I like more than chocolate is cheese and this was a win-win for me. As is the norm, we ate half of our own starter then swapped, just to get a taste, you know how it goes. And both were delicious. Little BIT didn’t have a starter but we ordered him the polony and chips and he scoffed it all down in a hurry so he could join his friends colouring at the kiddies table.
Onto the mains. I chose the honey glazed chicken and Hehoo had the T-bone steak and chips. I was impressed with the large size of the quarter breast and wing portion and it was so succulent and tasty that it got polished off quite quickly. The crisp side salad was nice too, even though I am not a fan of salad in winter. We loved their creamy chilli sauce, if they could sell a bottled version I would stock up for home.
The dessert choice for me was a bit disappointing merely because there was nothing without fruit and nothing with chocolate. Luckily they have a display of other sweets available and they kindly allowed me to have a milk tart instead of the three choices on the menu, it was superb. Hehoo had the Apple Crumble and Custard and he enjoyed it thoroughly, perfect for a chilly winter evening.
The atmosphere at Steakout is homely and with it being family oriented it was a great place to meet friends with their kids and enjoy good food as well as company. We all had a wonderful time and were pleased with the excellent service. It was our first time here and this experience has guaranteed that we will be back for more real soon.
