Despite the fact that Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday, a working day, that evening, make sure you knock off early, go home, change into your evening attire and go out for a night on the town. The local hotels and restaurants have organized an assortment of romantic, tasty and entertaining treats for you this year.

Different hotels and restaurants have different programs to treat their clients this year. If you will be in town, you will have an opportunity to listen to live entertainment from the country’s top artistes, Tendai Manatsa, Selmor Mtukudzi, Chiwoniso and Sulumani at the Rainbow Towers Valentine’s Dinner Dance! All in one location! This will be a black tie event, so ladies and gentlemen, please come prepared in your best dress. This evening promises to be fun- filled with food, music and dancing, with prizes to be won. You may either attend as singles, couples or go with a group of friends. If a dance party is not for you, the Harvest Garden and Kombahari restaurants will also offer some quieter Valentine’s specials including select cuisine, live music and beautiful décor. The Rainbow Towers will be glowing with hearts on 14 February!

At the Crowne Plaza there will be a Valentine’s Ball in the Great Indaba Room which will feature a buffet dinner with the background serenade from a live jazz band. There will be various treats such as chocolates and roses plus prizes and vouchers to be won. For a more intimate experience, try Le Francais Restaurant which will offer a four course candle-lit dinner plus a raffle for romantic getaways at two of the Crowne Plaza’s resorts.

To make your partner laugh on Valentine’s Day you can sing for her or him at a karaoke dinner at The Pointe Restaurant in the avenues. You can also listen to other people sing, and give each other your comments on how good or bad they sound, just as long as you promise to participate and make this Valentine’s a night to remember! There will also be a special dress code for guests that evening, so find out what it will be when you make your booking.

This Valentine’s Day, restaurants all over town, whether it be in the Central Business District or suburbia, will be fully booked with patrons. Not all of them will advertise their menus or programs for the evening, but if they are in business, chances are that every restaurant will give you an opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day in style this year.

Harare is a definitely a city of love, and many couples will make sure to dine out and appreciate this one day of the year which is reserved for various expressions of love. Making bookings for dinner on this special day is essential if you don’t want to cook and instead be spoiling yourself and your partner with a special meal and entertainment. If you are late you may end up not going to your restaurant of your choice!

As for your budget, most establishments will charge between $45 to $50 per plate. Make sure you have a separate budget for your drinks and other entertainment after dinner. Although Valentine’s Day falls on an almost midweek day, don’t rule out the possibility of having a late night, once you get into the mood.

St Valentine’s Day is definitely a day to look forward to, especially if you are attached to that special someone. If you are single, don’t cry at home, there is something special for the singles too as Harare’s places of entertainment plan to go all out this year. Keep your eyes and ears open for the most suitable place to enjoy your evening, and have a Happy St Valentine’s Day.
