St Elmos Responds to Client

Written by Joseph Bunga

thank you very much for your constructive criticism, as it is through feedback from customers like yourself that we can strive to maintain the highest standards possible. I apologise that you felt there was not enough spinach on the pizza, I will check that the spinach is being portioned to the correct weight. I also apologise that the Sweet and sour sauce was too subtle for your taste, we do try to put a little on as some customers find it too sweet. Please feel free to ask for a little extra sauce next time at no extra cost. With regards to the pricing on the pizzas, a Large Pizza has exactly double the toppings of a standard pizza, hence the cost. For example, a Standard Hawaiian has one portion of cheese, one portion of ham and one portion of pineapple, whilst the Large will have two portions of everything. The pizza base costs very little in relation to the toppings, hence the difference in price. I do agree that it is isleading, and I will be looking at discounting the large pizzas in the future to encourage customers to order them.

Thank you again for your constructive criticism, and we hope to serve you again soon.

Many thanks

Victoria 22 Restaurant Reviews to Date

Written by Joseph Bunga
Out of Africa experience.........

by Mademoiselle Gastronome

on March 20, 2010

When you need to escape from the day to day stress of living in Zimbabwe Victoria 22 is the place to go. I find the moment I walk through the door I start to relax. The setting has an Out of Africa feel to it, with its lovely manicured garden and beautifully presented meals in elegant, tasteful surroundings. What more could a girl want?

The most fantastic restaurant experience I have ever had, despite several brilliant gourmet experiences around the world! Vic 22 needs to be commended for the extraordinary quality, creativity and passion with which every masterfully prepared dish is presented. Each dish is exquisitely prepared and beautifully presented. An unforgettable experience and worth every cent.

From the moment we walked in, we were waited upon like royalty! Drinks under the gazebo on a cool summer's night, breathtaking and peaceful. The meal was impeccable and the homemade icecream a definite recommendation! Will miss Ryan who took great care of us whilst at Vic 22. A five star restaurant in Harare worth visitng.

I had a very interesting request some months ago when I first started up my training for Wait Staff, and that was to do some Cocktail Training at the Embassy. I ventured into this with great enthusiasm and planned a selection of five simple cocktails

Golden Bamboo Chinese Restaurant

Written by Susan Lemon

Golden Bamboo recently update their page and one our regular writers had this to say about this Chinese restaurant in Harare.

On Friday I arrived home rather late and we decided to try out the Golden Bamboo for the first time. Fortunately for us they had one spare table for us. The Restaurant itself is housed inside the Old Seasons in a far room at the back. The decor is very plain and not much has been done to alter the old restaurant that I can see. Its has a seating capacity of about 24 to 30 at a guess.

There is the odd bit of Chinese deocration here and there but not much else. The room however is still rather dark. The tables are laid with red cloths and matching serviettes plus the usual chopstick and bowls - quiet and tasteful. The service is not too bad a few hiccups here and there but ,acceptable overall. The menu is very limited with 2 Starters available, the most delicious Spring Rolls (a reminder of the Bamboo Inn days detected here) and Dipping Sauce and moist crispy Chicken Wings.

The main courses consist of Chow Main (noodles and meats), Chop Suey ( veg and meats), Chinese Omelettes and a few various other dishes such as Chicken and Oyster Sauce, Beef and Black Bean etc. I must say however that our meal was very tasty and the portions more than sufficient. The only suggestion that I would have would be that there be more of those delicious vegetables in the dishes that Chinese food is famous for such as Bak Choy, White Raddish, the Chinese Cabbage etc. as well as some chilies on request. Dessert can be chosen from the other more traditional Seasons Restuarant as there is no Chinese Dessert Menu available at present. Prices are reasonable for the two of us the 2 courses came to US$ 24 and with drinks another US$10 plus tip. All in all not bad for a new kid on the block.

Vanessa Gets Her Hand Burnt in Hells Kitchen

Written by Joseph Bunga

Watching Gordon Ramsay's Hells Kitchen - certainly is entertaining and definitely American Style. Today the ladies team won their pasta making challenge and they got to spend time out at a theme park on Rollercoasters.  The whole show seems to be a rollercoaster of emotions.

Seeing pasta made manually and fresh makes one wonder where in Zimbabwe can we find and eat freshly made pasta.  With the restaurant trade becoming increasingly competitive I can see more effort going towards fresh ingredients - in a meeting with Kimba the Chef at the Indaba Book Cafe in Bulawayo - he certainly placed a lot of emphasis on fresh ingredients.

South Africa saw Gordon Ramsay open one of his restaurants - Maze at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and this is what Gordon Ramsay commented: “maze is perfectly suited for South Africa and it’s a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with Sol and the One&Only brand. With Jason overseeing the standards, I fully expect this will quickly become another of our successful and sought-after restaurants.”

Vanessa got her hand burnt in the kitchen and had to be rushed off to hospital in a

Gordon Ramsay was throwing burger patties around saying that the patties were like ice hockey pucs - and comparing the patties to a pattie at a fast food joint.

COLD WIMPY DOGS eeaw

Written by place2b

Eish i thought Wimpy was still an international food retail group and thus expected some proper service. Walked into the still nice first street branch to some welcoming music but no servitude from the staff and well i pardoned that unknowingly to me this was just the best there was.

Being on the move I only managed to make my order of a "hot-dog" after close to 5 minutes. I had already started  losing my patience but one i paid it was like i was totally forgotten. Some loud and seemingly funny conversation was happening in the kitchen area that we all could hesr from the sitting area despite the music that was being played.

It had to take me a request to see the manager for me to be finally assured that my "hot-dog" was almost ready. Sure enough a couple or so minutes more i was brought my order by a waitress who held my "hot-dog" in her hand as if there was a shortage of trays or something.

A tiny vienna that did not even go all the way through the roll and a few raw tomatoes with a slash of lettuce on a roll that had been just pulled out of the cold room was the best Wimpy could offer for a HOT, rather COLD DOG
